Western women are socialized to have a special fondness for children, even to enjoy them sensuously. They regularly interact with children in intimately physical ways that may or may not be permitted men. So I suspect that there are a lot more minor-attracted women than studies indicate. Women can interpret their sexual/romantic desires for children and youth as a manifestation of their innate maternal character or something on that order: of course I feel special pleasure when I'm handling little kids, I'm built for motherhood. Having thus explained their feelings away, minor-attracted women only rarely identify as such and therefore show up only rarely in studies of MAAs that rely on self-report and self-identification.
I guess that one way to test my hypothesis--that there is a non-negligble number of minor-attracted women in the U.S. (or the U.K., or Australia, or the Netherlands, or wherever)--would involve VPGs and the same kind of stimulus images used in studies like those that established some level of pedophilic desire among men in the general population (e.g., Hall et al. 1995). Has any such study ever been done? Comments from minor-attracted women are especially welcome. |
