Greetings from a short term visitor with an agenda
Posted by brandstrom on 2007-February-08 01:49:39 EST, ThursdayI am a short term visitor who will be posting for two weeks or so, maximum three, with perhaps a return visit later on down the road, depending on how this visit goes. My purpose in posting here is to pick the brains of actual bona fide pedophiles and those who sympathize with them. I also plan to post at the Boy Chat forum in order to get a well-rounded assortment of feedback. The purpose of my posting is to get some notion of the types of reactions likely to be generated within the pedophile community to some proposed stances by a religious group which is sympathetic to minority sexual orientations in general.
I should explain that Im a young-girl-oriented male pedophile myself, but that is beside the point of the present posts Ill be making. (Nor is the fact of my pedophilia known publicly.) I have been reading many of the postings on the Girl Chat and Boy Chat Forums over the past many months, and am impressed with the literate diversity of opinion present, which brings us to the purpose of my own posting here at this time:
I am a lay member of a small, virtually unknown, religious order, operating under the auspices of a large U.S. liberal apostolic Christian denomination. The larger church body is well-known and at times somewhat controversial, having taken strong pro-Civil Rights stands from the early 1960s onward, and recently (last ten years) having publicly endorsed gay and lesbian rights, including the right for gay couples to maintain families including children. These stands have resulted in the loss of some church membership, but have also resulted in an offsetting gain in membership among others who believe similarly. Beyond those facts, I will not be identifying the church at this time, though it shouldnt be too hard to figure out if you follow religious news at all.
The small religious order mentioned is composed of about 50% gays and lesbians and about 50% heterosexual members, of both sexes, and of various ages, mostly from 30 or so and up, with the large majority of members in their 50s or higher. The order does not endorse celibacy as a religious way of life, except in the cases of individuals who choose that expedient for personal reasons of their own. The vast majority of the members of the order are not celibate. (I will not be identifying the Order at any time.)
To the best of my knowledge, none of the members of the order have made public declarations of pedophilia. On the other hand, no members have made a point of stating that they are not pedophiles, either. The matter is left open to surmise. For example, I suspect that several members of the order believe that Im probably a pedophile, but no one knows for sure and its not a matter we discuss.
The religious order has appointed me to a committee of five persons [three men and two women, with one of the women serving as chair of the committee] who are commissioned to Determine the feasibility and desirability of the Orders, and eventually the Churchs, establishing a public stance regarding pedophilia and related orientations, and the rights and implied responsibilities of adults who consider themselves pedophilic, as well as the rights of children generally to function in their own best interest without adult interference. There has been some discussion about the possibility of splitting this overall commission into two separate commissions, one regarding childrens rights only, and the other focusing on pedophiles and adult pedophilia, the thought being that an agenda endorsing childrens rights might be easier to promulgate to the order and to the church as a whole if it is not attached to the effort regarding adult pedophiles. This question has not yet been decided, and could go either way.
We are aware that we are using the word pedophilia in a broad and probably inaccurate manner, meaning adult sexual attraction to any person below whatever the legal age of consent is in their particular jurisdiction, but that usage is reflected in society at large and we feel it is less confusing than a more accurate term would be.
At this time, the committee has decided to leave the issue of child pornography unspoken to, as the members disagree as to whether it has been scientifically proven to be necessarily harmful to children who participate in its production, and that it is better to omit any discussion of it when we ourselves cannot agree on a stance in regard to it. (In fact, one of the rules the committee is operating under requires unanimous endorsement, by all five members, of any stances recommended by the committee to the larger group, and the order as a whole must endorse any stance by at least an 80% approving vote before the proposal can be placed before the church as a whole for consideration. Hence this is likely to be a steep mountain to climb, with the end result in some doubt.)
The committee is cognizant of the negative role organized religion has sometimes (perhaps often) played in societys perception of sexuality and sexual behavior and attitude, and one of the goals of our commission is to take some steps, however small, toward undoing some of that harm. The committee agrees unanimously that sex and sexuality are good and God-given benefits of human existence, with no tint of evil inherent in them, and that All individuals have the right to determine their own sexual behavior without societal control, provided no physical, mental, or spiritual harm is done to any participant in that behavior. (Note that this statement makes no mention of age.)
Part of my (unpaid) job as a member of the committee is to try to ascertain how the pedophilic community views organized religion (in general) and its proper role, if any, in influencing societys attitudes toward sexuality.
Therefore, next week I will be posting a poll question here at the Girl Chat forum, with prepared answers to choose from, and the possibility of adding your own individual comments for a fuller and more representative response. I hope that many of you will be willing to participate, even those of you who are agnostic or atheist. Your answers will be summarized in bulk and reported back to the committee of which I spoke, with no individual participant identified in any way.
Please be aware that this is a long term project, and the committee estimates that it will be at least a year before any of the activity conducted by the committee comes to public notice, if in fact that ever does occur. If the results of this poll-taking are valuable to the committee, I may very well be asked to return at a later time and pose further questions.
Thank you.
