Nobody up here thinks CoVid 19 is a hoax.
But recently there were 60 people here in Toronto that thought having a party together was a fun thing... until the local cops gave them all an $880 ticket. I still see the occasional idiot walking around our apartment complex foyer without a face mask. There was one restaurateur who openly, publicly, stayed open for INSIDE dining. The cops locked up the restaurant and arrested the guy.
Is the sky really falling? Look up! Yes, it is. What scares me most is the time it took to come up with an effective vaccine: about a year. Note that the Influenza virus mutates each year. What about SARS-CoV-2? (Confused??? Read on!)
You remember SARS, don't you?
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory disease of zoonotic origin caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV or SARS-CoV-1), the first identified strain of the SARS coronavirus species Severe acute respiratory syndrome–related coronavirus (SARSr-CoV). The syndrome caused the 2002–2004 SARS outbreak. In late 2017, Chinese scientists traced the virus through the intermediary of Asian palm civets to cave-dwelling horseshoe bats in Yunnan.
SARS was a relatively rare disease; at the end of the epidemic in June 2003, the incidence was 8,422 cases with a case fatality rate of 11%. No cases of SARS-CoV have been reported worldwide since 2004. As of 2020, SARS is considered eradicated in humans, but as the virus also infects animals, it is possible that it will re-emerge in the future.
In December 2019, the related virus strain severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was detected. This new strain causes Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disease which brought about the COVID-19 pandemic that we have had for an entire year with more than 1.49 million deaths attributed to COVID-19.
SARS and SARS, The Next Generation. (Sorry, Star Trek!)
So, to quote Henny Penny, "The sky is falling!"
