I have a history of alcoholism, and it is surely one reason for this situation. I never learned all the skills that the good citizens learned. (Now I drink less than my "normal" friends.)
The disadvantages of having bad credit, there are only a couple of them, and they are very minor nuisances. My debit card is still good for many things. And I cannot buy things in installments, which is just a good thing, because otherwise I would make too many debts.
Paying all those old debts? I am old, I have a small pension, and I have decided that it is better to enjoy that small pension in full for the rest of my life instead of paying the old debts for ghod-knows-how-many-years and living without food.
But I think meal delivery services would still be possible for me, if I asked around a little.
