Mandatory reporting laws make no distinction between someone who gives a therapist a detailed plan about how they are going to kill someone, and someone with "MAP" feelings. The mental health industry is working in the dark ages, not because therapists are unwilling or unable to help, but because laws prevent them from helping or even learning how to help a "MAP".
I'm quite happy with my sexual orientation, and I am happy romantically. I'd like to say there has never been any problem with this part of my life, but it bothers me that I will never be a father. Can a therapist help me with this? No, because they are required by law to treat me as a criminal for being born the person the Creator intends me to be, and because knowlege that could help me does not exist because it is against the law to research it. Apparently, I am the only human being that has ever had this dilemma and asked myself these questions. Sexual orientation is virtually irrelevant in my day to day life, but understanding it is a critical part of making a correct psychological diagnosis. It is impossible for a therapist to help anyone with any problem if they don't understand the patient's sexual orientation. This is why I don't consider mental health services an option. It is illegal, and no unbiased data exists. This is my perception. It looks like the 17 mental health professionals did a good job, considering they were working with the incredibly small sample size of only 4 "MAPs", and trust they understand the implications of such a small sample of volunteers. ![]() |
