While this scenario certainly COULD take place, I don't see what scenario would legally allow the fuzz to infiltrate and ask for ID, without any evidence of a crime being committed. I know some will say, "well we're child lovers and that's enough," But I don't buy it. For private citizens, sure. And I know we're not a cop's favorite people. But, this could cost people their careers, once the ACLU and APA got their teeth in it. And it makes no sense. Why wait til a conference? If you're gonna use Gestapo tactics, why not just haul them off as they come out of the SOTP office? All major towns have one. The cops certainly know where it is. While there may have been some unscrupulous act at one time, I am less inclined to believe it was someone making amends by ratting out their friends, and more inclined to believe that some people brushed up against the disclosure reporting requirements which caused a shrink to have to call the authorities. Or, someone had warrants or something. The courts are making headway (at least around here) in enforcing the 4th amendment AND the reasonable suspicion clauses. Or it could have been simply a show put on by the cops to get pedos back into their shells. Who knows, but without hearing to the contrary from someone who was there, I'm kinda thinking this story suffered from internet inflation.
