Rule 4 (Do Not Post Sexual or Suggestive Content Involving Minors) of Reddit's Content Policy reads in part as follows:
Reddit prohibits any sexual or suggestive content involving minors or someone who appears to be a minor.
Basically, this policy forbids anyone from speaking out in defense of pedophilia and debunking the slew of pseudoscientific myths that adult-child sexual interactions are necessarily (or even generally) harmful. Given that Reddit is "one of the most visited websites online," this effectively suppresses our movement and stonewalls popular discussion on the matter.
Yet, despite the fact that pedophilia is not intrinsically harmful, Reddit hosts communities associated with ultraconservative groups including neo-Nazis, a decision that has been linked to right-wing extremism across the globe, which self-evidently is harmful, even considerably so.
There is something incredibly strange and blatantly irrational going on in society if oppressive, violent thugs are given a platform to spread their views and recruit new adherents, but progressive social activists who wish to eliminate the stigma that is the source of all the suffering associated with particular sexual acts (a point I argue here) cannot even get a word in edgewise in mainstream discourse for the purpose of effecting positive change.
What are your thoughts? What do you think accounts for this nonsense? Is there any way we can circumvent this policy, or perhaps get Reddit's administrators to tone it down a bit and give us an opportunity to share our voice?
