Google, an asshole company, makes a shit search engine and there are plenty of alternatives that actually care about your privacy and security. Startpage relies on Google in some way but everything your search for is private and secure.

Similarly, why use Google Chrome when there are just as good or better free and/or open source alternatives? Firefox is both.
