This is par for the course in British society, currently. If anyone complains, the authorities will just play the emotive, 'our overriding concern is the protection of children; you do want children protected, don't you?' card. It could happen to absolutely anyone on the flimsiest of evidence. this is explicitly stated on sex offender treatment programmes. Obviously there are a lot of individuals with no desires for kids whatsoever who end up on these programs because of situations like these. They are all told that society is perfectly willing to accept a few (or even quite a few) cases of innocents being wrongly persecuted if it means protecting children. After that, anyone who still maintains their innocence on one of these programs is branded an unrepentant pervert. You see, you have to acknowledge your offending, even if their wasnt any going on.
Not to sound too cynical or anything, but at least if some tanked up chav decided to kill your friend, he can at least still hope for a hand-wringing article that completely misses the point in the Guardian or Independent. One bloke who was in a wheel chair (for added Victim Points) made the front page of the latter when he was beaten to death after being wrongly accused of being one of us. Look on the bright side, eh?
