I come here because I am attracted to minor girls and am tormented by my feelings; however, with few exceptions (e.g. the work of Dutch clinicians Frans Gieles and Alex van Naerssen) the conventional therapeutic approaches to such distress are crude, dehumanizing, and absolutist.
It's important to me that I not bottle up my feelings and ideas about pedophilia, but there is nowhere else I can go to express myself openly. Certainly I'm outta my league to contribute to the peer-reviewed journals, which provide the only socially endorsed forum for such necessarily critical and wide-ranging discussion. For an example of the possible breadth of such discussion, see "Peer commentaries on Green and Schmidt," Archives of Sexual Behavior 31(6). Your suggestion to go to an anti-pedophile board is just plain stupid: I am attracted to little girls, and I wouldn't trust one of those people with my life. Y' knbow, you've deceived yourself by attempting to limit what posters can or should express on this board, and such limitation is a key condition of the groupthink I described previously. If you don't know what groupthink is, you should hasten to read Irving Janis, the classic source on the subject--especially since you're a member of a marginalized community, which makes one far more susceptible to that particular cognitive bias. |
