The reason I use the term MAP is that it seems to be more commonly used where responses are needed by avoiding such an emotive word with strong negative connotations.
Nottingham University is running a survey right now about MAPs. There was a recent data dump of anti's trying to take down Twitter accounts and even they were using the term MAP. A recent newspaper article that resulted in website take downs was outraged about the word MAP because they want to stick to the word pedophile. Why? Because a newspaper business exists to sell newspapers and strong headlines sell newspapers. Terrorist, pedophile, words like this sells news, campaigner or MAP doesn't have quite the same WOW factor. I personally have nothing against the word pedophile, I'm proud of what I am, I just chose the word MAP since it's now so widely used anywhere that isn't trying to peddle news. But the counter argument is that the general public will know what pedophile is since its in the news every day but won't necessarily know what the word MAP is so there is value in the word pedophile. |
