I'm conflicted on the issue because I do agree with you but I also agree with my counter argument.

Maybe the solution is to start by defining pedophile and using that or start by defining MAP and using that. I suppose it depends on what we're trying to measure, whether the word pedophile creates a negative reaction or whether the pedophile sexuality itself by removing the explosive term creates a negative reaction. Either way I think you're right that it's better to just start with a clear term and use it.
