It was a different world when the "Founding Fathers" created this place. 5 or 10 years before that, no one had a computer at home, and newspapers, a couple TV networks, and radio talk shows were the only way to get information. GC and the related forums had a simple mission statement - to let people know they were not alone. The "Founding Fathers" provided a resource that was desperately needed at that time. I suspect they left because they were 100% successful in completing this mission, and there is nothing left do do.

You are right to be paranoid and aware of inevitable flame wars. Other than sexual orientation, people here have little in common.

I'll miss you, but don't interpret that as a "please don't go". I hope you find focus, clarity, and purpose. Self actualization is a worthy goal, and you must control the things and people you allow in your life if you strive for it. There are important problems in the world that need to be solved, and "sexual rights" isn't one of them.
