Actually, there is a psycho-social way to explain high rates of left handedness.
Sure enough, handedness is born. But the reactions to handedness are social. And let's face it, there still is a good amount of discrimination and stigma against left handedness. The increased amount of social pressures and discrimination may alone account for poorer school results in childhood (more so as schooling is explicitly designed for the right handed!) and for a greater rate of self harming and anti social behaviors and acts in adolescence and adulthood -- such as, sexual offences. It isn't that "offenders" or "potential offenders" are more likely to be left handed; it's that the left handed are more likely to be pushed to offend by social mechanisms. Also... interesting to see that he sampled the 143% of patients. How dedicated a scientist! Almost as dedicated as Venezuelan voters! |
