There were also claims that the shooter may have been a pedophile, and Jim Carrey's character in the movie made quite a show of attacking "pedophiles" (men involved in prostituting young women who appeared to be over 18 are pedophiles?)

So perhaps he had other reasons, or perhaps he suddenly realized that he didn't want to become an object of wrath for pedophiles.
