Tech question--OT

I recently changed out my monitor for a Soyo flatscreen. It's a good monitor, but there's one problem--most of the colors are far too bright. I adjusted the monitor's brightness/contrast setting, but even at the absolute dark end of the scale the colors are too bright. The background on this site looks white, for example, or, at the fully dark end, pale gray. This is obviously an internal issue. Can someone give me some suggestions as to what might be causing this and what I can do to fix it? Thanks.
