I think this is just common for a lot of people. A feeling of belonging is lacking lately in today's society on a lot of polls compared to years past.

Hopefully in the near future it will be easier than ever to find communities that cater exactly to your interests, because it's kind of crazy that someone hasn't created something like that app wise. Facebook groups comes close as do some other social media, but it's never exactly like finding friends with common interests.

I've found a little slice of this with an online group that focuses on watching anime and then coming on and discussing the shows we were supposed to watch that week. With a focus on ones with cute young girls in it:) Most of the people in it are Japanese though and it's been hard since my Japanese is only at JLPT N3 (intermediate) maybe right now.
