... I've known way too many adults who are casually cruel and too serious for their own good. On the other hand there are lots of decent adults, too. The question is knowing who is who and how to find them. I do think that the difference is maybe developmental and partly genetic in origin - look up neoteny and the changes in mammals as they reach adulthood. These changes include greater rigidity of thought, reduced playfulness, and generally greater aggression. Humans are neotenous apes, and I sometimes think that pedophiles are especially neotenous humans.

That said I have found that a surprising number of adults are open to criticism of the moral panic surrounding pedophilia, and frankly I think I have come across more than a few who were pleased to find someone willing to condemn the moral panic, and to not hate on people just for being attracted to children. There are an awful lot of us out in the world, you know.

At the same time I can't help thinking that the hikikomori phenomenon in Japan might be in large part child lovers who don't see any point in participating in a society that hates them.

"I've had to lie so much and for so long lying has become easy. It doesn't even bother me anymore. I'll lie about anything because it is what they deserve; it is what they asked for."

This resonates with me. I dislike lying, though it seems most people come by it easily - but as you say the general public requires us to lie, so they don't deserve anything better.
