To be honest, I thought the term "oriental" was still used in places like the UK. It was as of a few years ago. All it means is someone from the Orient, but geographic identity becomes an offense when you're trying to homogenize the planet.
I recently discovered some people are taking offense to the term "Eskimo" now. What's gonna happen to my favorite ice cream treat and Zappa song now? :(
I often use terms here specifically because I can hear a few indoctrinated people gasping at my ignorance and insensitivity. I will never bend to it, especially where language is concerned. Unless of course I happen to see a valid point, and most of the time I don't. Nearly all of this war on language has a political goal in mind that I'm not onboard with, so screw it. Like I said, you will never satisfy them. They simply invent something new to take offense to.
Maybe I'll hang it all up and build myself an igloo in the Great White North with Nanook, eh?
