They should try to show, empirically, why acting on our desires is bad in the first place.
Arguments on pornography are nothing more than speculation with no basis in fact, on how viewing pornography goes on to cause x and y - which they then again just assume is wrong. Which is basically the same justification politicians use to keep it illegal. And really "acting on it" - being sexually active with a minor - forget it. No one wants to touch that with a 10 foot pole, and even if someone wanted to I can't imagine any university IRB ever approving the study, even if it's only done on adults. Why explore the factors that could predict what leads to a positive or a negative result in adulthood when the same ignorant garbage can simply be repeated? It's especially easy when there's a moratorium on anything genuinely novel. What you have today, at best, is researchers pretending to be neutral and to have an open mind just to recruit pedophiles for their study. Then in the end they produce the same, tired garbage. Maybe there have been a few exceptions to that, but nothing I've seen in the last 10 years. Nice sigpic by the way. |
