I hate it too.

I don't deny that it can become required, but the fact that it becomes required is an indication of the moral decay of a society, which is the real problem. We shouldn't get to the point where the concept of "On Your Honor" becomes something nobody even thinks is realistic. Self-control, self-moderation, self-policing... all of this stuff has simply been allowed to decay for decades. Some think this is true freedom. What it really leads to is surveillance and harsh policing just to keep the social order. It fucking sucks. I try to do the right thing and I don't need cameras and GPS tracking or some creepy social credit score to keep me in line, but I look around and I see fewer and fewer of us as the years go by, with more and more who think it terms of what they can scam or hustle or get away with. And tbh, I don't rule out that this mindset has been purposely socially conditioned into people in order to bring those very results about.

..But try to sell personal responsibility these days. You'll be laughed off the stage by those who consider themselves edgy. It may already be out of our hands.
