According to genetic and fossil evidence, older versions of Homo sapiens (us) evolved only in Africa, between 200,000 and 100,000 years ago, with members of one branch leaving Africa by 90,000 years ago and over time replacing earlier human populations such as Neanderthals and Homo erectus. The system we call Planet Earth has tried for those hundreds of thousands of year to get rid of us.

Extreme cold, extreme heat, violent winds, earthquakes, meteorite impacts, wild animals, fires, and even biological attacks have been tried. The latter, of course, being bacteria like cholera, plague, and small pox and viruses such as the corona viruses and others of their like that we seem so afraid of today. They both can be quite efficient at killing off the infestation that we are to this Big Blue Marble.

As for god, gods, wannabe and imaginary gods, I can only comment factually on one system that we have invented. I could list hundreds of absurdities, contradictions, and outright idiocy from both halves of the every popular bible, as it was written. Next, then, we have the fearsome and warlike Arabic god. From what I've seen of allah, I don't think he/she/it is so akbar. As for Buddha, he might have been a cool dude back in the day, but to have reached enlightenment after all the chit he went through, well, I'd say he finally wised up. As for Jehovah, Yahweh Elohim, Tetragrammaton, El, Elohim, Eloah, Elohai, El Shaddai, Tzevaot, Yeshua, Jesus, and Jimmy Swaggart, let's just leave all that as a belly laugh and move right along.

I don't think our successful extermination is going to be any kind of godly, geocentric, biologic, or even nuclear thing that finally gets us. I do think, though, that it's going to be something that we, ourselves, create. The Singularity.

We have created a machine that plays chess better than any of us can. We have created a machine that plays that Japanese game of Go better than any of us can. We have created a machine that plays Jeopardy better than any of us can. And then, there's the awesome pair of Google and Wikipedia. If I asked you who the current mayor of the city of Montreal was, would YOU know that it was a lady named Valérie Plante has who has two children and is married to Pierre-Antoine Harvey. Oh, come on! You didn't know that? Go ahead, ask your cellphone! Say, "Hey Google. Who is Valérie Plante?"

We currently have the technology to create self-replicating machines. We currently have technology to create a machine that's smarter than most dogs. I'd say, within the next 100 years, machines are going to figure out how to become the dominant entities on this planet. Give them another 100 years, and the infestation called humans will be exterminated or just allowed to die off due to lack of food.
