"He's right. Generally speaking, getting involved with someone and then suddenly claiming you're bae is a bit rapey."
If two people are heavily involved (like, spending a lot of time together and starting to get romantic) and then one says "Can't see you tomorrow night, I've got a hot date!" - that is what is abnormal - or at least, has always been abnormal in the past, and is still abnormal in most of America. In fact, it could be argued that THAT is getting kind of rapey - not the bit about having another significant other, but the bit about having not mentioned it before, and taking advantage of the other person by starting a romantic relationship without the other person being aware. Perhaps things are changing, but at the very least people should be aware that things are changing, that things have not always been this way, and that many people are still operating on the old plan. And for most people in the United States, romantic relationships are still expected to be exclusive unless specifically indicated otherwise. Like I say, perhaps things are changing, but considering this is the first I've heard about I'll dare to say that most people are not yet on board. Baldur ![]() |
