I can just see which ways we're trending, in my opinion.

And in any case, whether you're feeling it out or saying it straight, you don't make assumptions.

(Unless you're okay with getting hurt.)

You don't decide to feel it out but then get mad when the other person didn't put their life on hold. And kids are natural free spirits, was my second one.
