Good point. I'd rather ask and get turned down than not ask and never know. And who knows she may not even have any interest. But the one thing I forgot to mention is most of my non-work friends (about a dozen) know of my attraction and would be very supportive and understanding. So while I may possibly lose friends at work even for just asking... if people found out, my main social group would be fine and stay intact.
