Can't really argue with any of that, our newspapers here in the UK must rate as the most phobic in the world, doesn't take much to get them all foaming at the mouth - they do seem to know what sells papers. That is one problem of the media, TV as well, it is mainly driven by commercial pressures. 'Just reflecting the public view', that is often their defence, and in the case of pedophilia it is mostly accurate, but they also shape it.

As an example, in the recent TV programme in the UK about a pedophile, 'Secret Life' we have the following comments:

From Joffe, the writer/director:

Two things struck me ... one was the paedophile's self-knowledge - he seemed aware of the threat he posed to children

Um, perhaps a little more research Mr Joffe?

From the TV reviewer Alison Graham:

Eventually shunned and alone, he gives in to the overwhelming need he realises he can never, ever control

So all the effort put towards controlling pedophile behaviour by the professionals is wasted?

and

It's remorsely hopeless and depressing, talking about the programme, which I agree 100% with and why I didn't like the programme.

also by Graham:

...a bleak portrait of a paedophile sent back into a community that plainly doesn't want him, or any of his ilk. (my underlining) A dark and unsettling conclusion will probably send you to bed upset, possibly even angry, it will almost certainly keep you awake.

Not really, just sad at all the stereotypes, and I did sleep soundly.

Just a sample of what the supposedly rational media contributes to the views towards pedophilia.
