Well.. since the donations were made for the purpose of it being a political statement by being openly from a community of Girl Lovers.. him donating it anonymously to a different charity without getting permission from those who donated the money.. is stealing it for his own use, even if that use was positive in his own eyes.

In the end, it doesn't matter what he did with the money. What matters is that regardless of what was done with it, it was stolen to do so. What makes it stolen? The fact that the organizer and many of the donors feel that it was. Money used for any purpose other than what the money was handed over for is a misuse of funds, and therefor a byproduct of theft by default.

If he did keep the money or not is impossible to know, though there are a number of things that give indication as to one or the other. My point is that even if his intentions are taken out of the equation, the fact remains that all evidence supports the assertion that Todd stole the money.
