I absolutely agree with you that there are wolves in sheeps' clothing - however, I see nothing particularly novel in this, as there are plenty of teleiophiles who are the same. Likewise, it seems like the more religious people are often the ones ignoring their own religious values.
There is no perfect solution in either case, but the methods for dealing with both are pretty much the same - transparency, openness, and getting to know someone pretty well. Personally, I've always done pretty well figuring out who is trustworthy. Lots of little things, like - as Demosthenes and Shakespeare have noted - that some "protesteth too much". I figure the same knowledge that works for teleiophiles will work for pedophiles too. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to have the same ability to detect impostors - but there are other things that can be done, as well. For example, just having several people know about what's going on, will cause an unscrupulous person to adjust their behavior. Again - transparency. Unfortunately, the current situation makes things worse, because it destroys any chance of transparency. Innocent and guilty alike have to hide in the shadows - and all kinds of things happen in the shadows. Which means that we've also wound up with many sheep in wolves' clothing. |
