Parents take the responsibility when it comes to giving permission in almost all other areas of the child's life. Far from believing that the children need more "freedom", I think they need more supervision and attention, especially when it comes to something as important as sexuality development. It's prohibition that I think needs to go, not parental involvement.


I don't buy this at all. I'm well into middle age, and yet I still look to others for advice, I still seek out mentors-- especially when I take on new tasks. People of all ages need guidance.

But, but BUT... I am deciding on who are going to be my mentors or advisors. And all people should have that right. Parents get the first chance to "apply" for that status: kids begin looking to them to fill those roles. But when a kid decides he or she can do better, then parents need to step aside-- need to be requried to step aside.
