I will be more specific:
When I go to a newsreader service, such as Easynews, for example, and access a newsgroup, the separate articles are posted one line at a time, even in the case of something such as a movie which is too big for one line; these are broken down into bite-sized chunks and posted one line at a time. To view the post, you highlight and then click on the line that you want to see. In the case of a newsgroup with photos, such as alt.binaries.pictures.child or alt.binaries.pictures.youth-and-beauty, this allows you to see one photo at a time REGARDLESS of your connection: 28-bit, 56-bit, DSL, satellite, smoke signal, tribal drums, messenger boy, whatever :+). In this sense, they are all equal: you pull up one photo at a time. Some methods are obviously faster than others in retrieving a photo but they all share the same basic limitation: they retrieve one photo at a time. They also share the irritation of spam, but this is more of an aggravation than a limitation. Picture view was desgned to sell people's time back to them; it is a time-saver, period. It saves your time by combining and then retrieving and displaying 15 photos at a time instead of one, and, again, it does this by displaying 15 thumbnail photos per page REGARDLESS of your connection: DSL or smoke signal, you still get 15 photos per page instead of one. If you like a photo, click on it and enlarge it. If you don't like a photo, ignore it. BUT you see the photo BEFORE you download it, and without PictureView, this is simply not possible. For you to assess, or judge, 15 photos, you must download 15 pages. For me to judge 15 photos I must download one page. Again, PictureView is 15 times as fast as downloading every single page. "Highlight the messages you are interested in"? and how do you do that? One line at a time. That is called "hassle" in my dictionary. PictureView is not perfect: the photos are stored on their server, so they go through them every day eliminating the borderline photos that could get them in trouble, and they err on the side of caution. However, if you are not looking for CP this should be no problem. The total lack of spam by itself is worth 25 cents a day to me, not to mention the time that I save. |
