Because the law is there and wishing otherwise doesn't change that.
I don't think the law implicitly judges or decides to persecute pedophiles, the law is just a reflection of society. Society pushes on government, government's primary concern is votes so government moulds the law to what society wants while paying attention to frameworks they have to work inside such as European law, the police then enforce that law and the justice system judges when laws have been broken. I think most people have laws they disagree with whether speeding laws, going to prison for not paying tax's, age of consent laws etc. I think the law is wrong in many areas but the law is there so we have to try to work inside it. People do speed though, people do go to lengths to reduce their tax bills and people do find love with underage partners. So I'm just suggesting the constructive thing is to try to change laws. Hitting laws head on rarely gets results but gradual changes can be effective so I'm suggesting enshrining people's rights then campaign for other laws that offer further and further protection. The goal is to get full and true equal rights not only in law but in the eyes of society. |
