Having mixed "apples and oranges" in the definition with regard to sexual attraction and violence, and with regard to the incompatible definitions used by the APA and by Law Enforcement; this text continues their errors into the next section.

Description;

Ephebophilia
is not a term appearing within the APA's DSM IV, and for good reason. The attraction to adolescent youth has been a hallmark of baseline Hetero and Homosexuality throughout history and across cultural boundaries. The inclination to call it pathological is an artifact of conflating the law with morality and mental health.

While speed-limits vary, no one is apt to define going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone as a mental aberration. And yet, those who don't act in accord to the AOC are seen an suffering from an illness, unless they happen to live in a jurisdiction where the AOC sanctions their relationship.

To link mental illness to fluctuating arbitrary legal boundaries makes a mockery of the mental health profession. Those states who politicize mental health and remand mere law breakers to psychiatric treatment ( see the Soviet Union ) are rightfully viewed as abusing the mental health system in service of human rights abuses.

Within the definition the author again conflates a sexual attraction to a set of behaviors; exposure, fondling, intercourse &tc without demonstrating the necessary link to pedophilia nor explaining away how those behaviors with children occur in the population who are not attracted to children.
The APA recognizes that participation in a sexual act ( voluntarily or involuntarily ) does not redefine sexual orientation. And Kinsey found same-sex sexual exploration to be a normal part of heterosexual development. No therapist would presume that this activity defines their subjects' sexual orientation. And yet we see the author failing, time and again, to understand the basic definitions of the mental health profession.

Causes;

This section is simply a long list of unfounded speculations about the cause of Pedophilia. At this point there are as many causes as there are those willing to speculate. The data is useless for two reasons; most studies are done on the criminal population, and may tell us much about those who are incarcerated, but they don't allow us to draw conclusions about the vast majority of pedophiles, and furthermore, the current clime characterized by unprovoked assaults on law-abiding pedophiles guarantees that the vast majority will not participate in any study.

The pedophobia, of which this article is symptomatic, guarantees that ignorance begets ignorance.

Symptoms;

Since this section draws from the fewest pre-existing sources, and contains assertions unique to this author's opinion; it is the one most riddled with errors of those we've yet examined.

A pedophile is often very attractive to the children who are potential victims.

Surely they meant "attracted to." The notion that children seek out, or are attracted to pedophiles are refuted by the notion implied later that "grooming behavior" is necessary. However the notion that pedophiles are more attracted to children who exhibit "victim" behavior or are in situations which make them vulnerable is easily refuted by most penile plesythmograph tests ( Kent State.) Pedophile attraction, like heterosexual and homosexual attraction seems to have a direct link to aesthetic preferences. The presumption that an ugly potential victim of criminal assault is more attractive than a beautiful non-victim only holds true for those seeking to victimize and it holds true across sexual orientation; leading to the conclusion that a rapist is a rapist, not a heterosexual-rapist, or a heterosexual-rapist. This is again born out by studies of those who rape against aesthetic preference or sexual orientation.

Potential pedophiles may volunteer their services to athletic teams, Scout troops, or religious or civic organizations that serve youth.

The phrase "potential pedophiles" reveals that despite their quotation and citation of the APA standards, the author chooses to ignore the element of sexual attraction ( or even paraphilia,) and define the pedophile by their actions. According to the APA, where the attraction is present, current and has an influence on behavior; one is a pedophile. The actions are unspecified and could be as simple as solo-masturbation, or perhaps even writing in a weblog. For those who deny that it is an illness at all and wish to see pedophilia transition to an orientation ( as homophilia did,) no "acts" are required to recognize a sexual attraction. Either way, the notion of a "potential pedophile" is problematic.

After attempting to associate the typical list of rationalizations offered by rapists to pedophiles, the author states,
All these rationalizations may be found in pornography with pedophilic themes.

Firstly, its highly questionable that the author of this document gained access to illegal contraband. Further, when such materials are evaluated legally; whether in censored form, or by a description provided by the prosecution ( such secondhand reports should be evaluated skeptically ) the materials appear to be primarily graphic images free of any narration or narrative content. As the print form is replaced by online imagery this appears to be on the increase. Therefore the "rationalization" narrative must be supplied by the abuser, or in the absence of abuse, by the prosecutor. Therefore this characterization appears to be speculative at best and projection at worst.

... to be continued
