'Why didn't she tell them not to?' Maybe because she never met someone like you ;)

Like most Americans, she probably didn't realise she was brainwashed on that topic, and she likely trusted the 'expertise' of medical doctors. What's the saying?... Don't attribute to malice what can more easily be explained by ignorance.

I don't know much about the late Ms. Parton, except that she seemed a lot more gracious than that nasty Barbara Walters in that 1970s interview that's making the rounds again.

But yes, the American propaganda that part of ALL boys' genitals should be cut off, because it *might* prevent the occasional urinary tract infection some time in the future, is outrageous. In medicine, such procedures are called 'prophylactic surgery': That is, the surgery does not treat any medical condition. Rather, it aims to prevent a more serious disease in high risk individuals in the future (e.g., removing a body part at risk of developing cancer BEFORE any cancer develops, based on risk factors). In considering prophylactic surgeries, doctors should carefully consider individual risk factors and less invasive alternatives. Such procedures should NOT be administered routinely to half of the population!
