Does anyone know the reason why they cancelled The Mysterious Benedict Society (TMBS)?
This show was amazing. It was underrated and I can understand why it was not particularly popular (not being tied to an existing IP), but why did they end it completely? I feel like it is incredibly disrespectful to the cast and crew who worked so hard! It is not like the show was old and it was beloved. They have shows, movies, and shorts that people probably do not know about (like 1938 Ferdinand) and those are not taken down, so why this show specifically?
The only explanations I find are to do with exploiting legal loopholes, avoiding taxes, or plans for selling it back to Hulu (never happened), all of which would make sense for an underperforming show, which it clearly was not. "It was a contentious time for streaming" does not work for me anymore, because streaming has been in perpetual hot water since its conception. Every year people complain that streaming is a scam, yet we all know it is here to stay. Meanwhile good shows like TMBS get berried. It is like a scam right out of Mel Brook's The Producers I would not be surprised if many here has not even heard of it, while still being familiar with less successful titles, simply because they had a better ad campaign.
