Male teleiophiles fetishise adult women ALL THE TIME. It is very prevalent in modern society. The sex industry - including strip clubs, legal prostitution and porn - provide ample evidence for that...but there are also the many stereotypes applied to subgroups of women that nearly everyone is familiar with; from the 'yellow fever' idea that Asian women are sexually submissive and will do whatever a man tells her to do, to the idea that black women are sexually adventurous and like it rough, to the idea that American women are uniquely slutty (this is a common belief in areas of western Europe), and the tropes of women wanting a "strong"/domineering man to submit to and boss her around, and so many more...

But they cannot handle any kind of critique of their own ways of relating to women and being in the world. So, of course, pedophiles become the scapegoat for EVERYTHING they dislike about themselves, and pedophilia becomes the evil boogeyman that we all must fight against. Not r@pe against adult women, not sexual abuse of adult women, not pimping, not male chauvinism (which is startlingly similar to mainstream feminism)...no, we are all supposed to believe it is pedophilia that is the root cause of all evil in the world. Ha!
As a woman, I just have to laugh at this. Dudes need to look in the mirror before they point the finger of blame at other men, in my opinion. People in glass house shouldn't throw stones.
I've heard the argument that it is uniquely destructive to girls since they are still developing their identities, etc. However, I am not convinced of this. Children of both sexes, but girls especially, are incredibly resilient and have an amazing ability to cope with setbacks such as sexual abuse and grow into happy healthy adults with healthy relationships.
If the goal is really to protect vulnerable people, improve opposite sex relations and improve society - we must take an honest look at what is really doing the most damage and not try to scapegoat, stigmatize and compartmentalize.
