Swear words have their semi-taboo status for good reason. They are an outlet for extreme feelings which, in their proper place, serve as a release valve which can often avoid the next ratcheting up, which tends to be violence. So it's definitely a huge concern when they become part of any casual use. Plus, perhaps being older now, to me it looks rather trashy, especially when I hear those words used casually by young females. It's just sort of off-putting for me, having grown up with them having a different status in the language than is more permissive today. It's just sorta gross to hear their casual usage, but then, language itself is just another politicized realm these days like everything else, so I'm also not surprised about it.
And, after thinking about it more, why SHOULDN'T dad have been flying off the handle? It was for a good reason, after all. Some ass-clown in a pickup almost killed his wife and precious daughter (who strangely looks nothing like him. DNA test needed, dad?). Sure, it was unfortunate his young child witnessed him being so angry, but she will understand why one day. His wife should have understood and tried to calm him, instead of shooting him that bitchy "you're an idiot!" look. In real life, she probably would have understood why he was so protective, and rewarded him later that night for his protection in the face of possible tragedy. But I can tell she probably took it for granted, complained about the toilet seat being up, gave him zero nookie, and later invaded his side of the bed with her razor toenails like she always does. I'm so tired of dads, and usually strictly white dads, having to play the role of the moron in every commercial, every sitcom, every film. I know it's planned that way purposely, of course, but wow it has truly reached the point of beating a dead horse, like SO MANY OTHER eye-rolling things in entertainment and advertising. Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah.. passive acceptance of cursing in a casual manner only Feels like freedom. THat's my position on it. |
