But not outright oppression.

My uncle used to say, let a spirited horse run his heart out on the track, but don't let him run off down the street.

Earlier True Story: My illiterate late 1800's Irish-cop-uncle was said in family-lore to have dragged a dead horse over to another street just to be able to write his police report.

These could be easy lies, but they truly aren', especially in the grand scheme of passed-down American loyalty.
