If someone really wants to terminate themselves, they can and will find a way. I don't understand this petitioning the government nonsense. Well, actually I do. Just like so many other things, "you do you" is not enough. There are elements out there who demand to also normalize and assimilate things with the demand that everyone else agree with a particular viewpoint of expressing positive acceptance. This places a burden upon others to live in your reality. Whatever it may be. It is, thankfully, doomed to fail in all its forms of that stupid generic raised fist.
