Zelensky actually said publicly that Ukraine would not join NATO in a last-ditch effort to stop the invasion. Obviously, it didn't work. I think Putin is motivated by many things beyond whether Ukraine joins NATO or not. I also think it's a counterproductive measure on his part, as evidenced by Finland, another neighboring country, joining NATO as a reaction to the invasion.

And as far as Jimmy Dore goes, I think he's a charlatan who's making money by dividing the left. His audience is primarily MAGA chuds at this point for a reason. His main objective is to cause infighting among the left and to shepherd dissident leftists into the right. That's not to say everything he says or has ever said is incorrect, but he's not the most trustworthy source and I would take things he says with a grain of salt.
