Putinism and Ukrainian nationalism are a product of the fall of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union being premised on an ideology tried to minimize ethnic differences; didn't care to make more homogeneous constituents; didn't care for internal immigration, and I don't mean forced displacements.

That itself is a product of the Russian Empire being itself, while Russian elite, multinational. Which they copied from Mongols and the Eastern Roman Epire.
