But how much simpler it is in my native language/mother tongue! The pronoun for the third person singular is a single gender-neutral word, and the third person plural is always plural.
Sometimes it causes small problems, too. In English it is possible to say "He said to her". But in my mother tongue you must SOMETIMES say something like "man said to her" or "he said to Jill" or "he said to the woman" or "Jack said to Jill". But the languages with two third person pronouns have the same problem if the two persons are the same gender: "he said to him" might be confusing sometimes. |
