I have heard of it happening,but is it really that frequent? I hear of it happening more to boys than girls on top of that. Maybe I'm wrong if there's some stats as I can't find any, but it just doesn't seem to be a common occurrence.

The pedophile thing is more of a Hollywood invention. I see it a very common trope in tv shows nowadays where the man is a jerk and doesn't care about anyone, but himself. But, to make people like him he will beat the living crap out of a person caught looking at a kid. The Americans was a classic example of this with it happening I think in the first episode. But, so many shows are doing this now.
