The book Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children From Sex, recommended by Tom O'Carroll in a post titled "Is feminism a dirty word for you?", restates and elaborates on my above point, almost verbatim, that "Sex is not and should not be regarded as some kind of special category apart from other acts":
Sex is a moral issue. But it is neither a different nor a greater moral issue than many other aspects of human interaction. Sex is not a separate category of life; it should not be regarded as a separate category of art, education, politics, or commerce, or of emotional harm or benefit. (p. xxxiv, emphasis added) So far, this book appears to be a serious and well-researched indictment against society's moral panic over child and adolescent sexuality. In my opinion, everyone here should check it out. (To download it for free, search for it in the Library Genesis.) |
