Ten years ago, it was all open. You didn't even need to purchase an internet plan if you didn't want to - you could just jump on a neighbor's wifi.
Today it's the opposite, it's all closed. I don't think people made this change, they're too stupid to care or notice - and now when you get a router/modem it has the password on the device. It's all encrypted by default. I figure it was the companies that made this move, but I wonder why. Liability? Complaints? I'm not sure. |
