The ancient Greeks understood much

"It is the attraction to juvenile features that led to sexual selection favoring the traits that are fundamental to humanity and distinguish us from lesser apes."

I believe it probable that it is observation of this (and of the simple fact that the strongest and most dominant men tend to prefer the youngest-appearing females) that led to the myth of Heracles and Hebe.
