COVID-19 has little effect on children under the age of 10. The mortality rate is effectively zero.
For ages 10 to 19 it might be as high as 0.2% - which is worse than the flu, but not civilization-shaking. The death rate for healthy persons under the age of 50 is relatively small. COVID-19 affects East Asians more than other ethnic groups, men more than women, older people more than younger people. It is chiefly deadly to people with pre-existing medical conditions. Risk factors include heart disease, diabetes, and smoking. Many people who are infected never show any symptoms - which is bad for keeping it quarantined, but good in that it means that it won't wipe out humanity. The chief danger is likely to be economic, as the disease is demonstrating that global supply chains have become overly dependent on China - including something like 95% of medications used in the United States being made in China or made from components made in China.
