I have clinical photophobia and astigmatism to the point of being "legally blind". It doesn't really affect my daily life except to that I am not permitted to drive an automobile because I can't pass the sight examination.

A lawyer friend told me a few years ago that I would qualify for disability insurance. I went to the appropriate office in Baltimore and filled out the forms. The first employee to review it angrily said to me (exact words): "You ain't blind! You don't got no cane or no dog!"

I didn't bother to try further.
