I don't think the mother of that child had intended on actually allowing the little girl to pee there. I'm sure the little girl only discovered Her urgency and saw the grating. You see, in China (and many other civilized Asian countries) peeing is usually done over an open or grated slot in the floor with running water going through. The little girl thought She was doing what She was supposed to, WHERE She was supposed to.

This is the primary reason, here in the civilized(?) West, people are shocked to see some Asian female attempting to stand on a toilet to pee. Asians don't like to have anything touching them once "in the position" so, quite often, they "hover". Tall toilets tend to make that a difficult acrobatic feature.

Of course, in Japan (a thousand thanks to the gods), girls there enjoy peeing in a gazillion different ways, clothed or otherwise... quite to the enjoyment of their viewers. They even have a Japanese word for it, famous all over the cloistered world: Omorashi.

I would imagine Thai people are not invited.
