I'm not sure what grade I was in, but I had joined the acting group at school that had called themselves "The Thesbian Group." I went home and told my parents that I had joined "The Lesbian Group." I don't remember the reaction I got but, much later, I realized that I had mispronounced the name, quite to my embarrassment.

My prospective career choice came to a rather abrupt conclusion that year when my glorious part in Shakespeare's "As You Like It" was to open and close the stage's curtain.
