Certainly adults should not attempt to persuade boys to think they are girls, and girls to think they are boys. On the contrary, they should let boys know that they can still be boys even if they like some girlish things, and for girls to know they can still be girls even if they like some boyish things.

But apart from that, there are far more people "in between" the sexes than most people realize. Not nearly as many as are "coming out" presently I'm told - perhaps one in one or two thousand who are truly "in between" biologically, to the point where it is difficult to tell during infancy, and perhaps ten times that many who have some minor physical trait of the opposite sex. In one of the very large high schools with two thousand students it might be reasonable to expect one or two such students, not one or two dozen.

So it is of some concern that apparently at many of these schools they are counted in the dozens. It speaks to an environment in which many children are being influenced to be something they are not.

But on the other hand, we could also do a lot better in recognizing and supporting those who are genuinely in between, who have a body of one sex and a brain of the other - for which there is fairly solid empirical evidence.

But consider also the bright side: trans activism is exposing the central lie behind the feminism that has had tremendous sway for the past half century. It is making the feminist lies wither in the stark light of truth: no, men and women are not interchangeable, boys and girls are not interchangeable. No, most women should not attempt to attain success in the same way men do, because that is not how women function best, and they will not be happy doing so. A small minority of women might enjoy that and do well at it, but it should not be a social norm. It should not be expected of them.

And hopefully the girls out there will get this message before they commit themselves to a course in life that will make them unhappy. There's a lot of evidence that feminist ideology has made women in general less happy than they were fifty years ago - and of course it has had even worse consequences on both children and men.

Trans activism puts all these facts in stark relief where they are difficult to ignore.
